Bengal Tiger relocated to reserve where entire tiger population was poached.
Not sure this is a good idea. I'm waiting to find out how this goes. I blogged about the dwindling Bengal tiger population before. Tigers are so highly sought after by poachers for their skin and body parts that any attempt at conserving them has led to disaster.
So now, they take perfectly happy Bengal tigers out of the Ranthambore Tiger Reserve in Rajasthan and move them to the Sariska Tiger Reserve in India where the entire Bengal Tiger population was wiped out just a few years ago. They are hoping that the big cats populate the reserve, but I bet what actually happens is they get shot too. I hate to be a pessimist, but come on people, the poachers killed all of the Bengal Tigers that lived there before, what makes you think they won't do it again?
Basically the move just makes it easier for poachers, because a small population of Tigers is easier to overtake and kill than a large group. I'll be watching this one.
